Forging and Heat Treating

Forging knives, the process of heating and hammering a single piece of metal to make a knife, is a centuries-old craft practiced in cultures all over the world. The equipment knife makers use today for heat treating knives may be more sophisticated than it was several hundred years ago, but the principles and practices have stayed relatively consistent over time. First, the material for the blade is heated in an oven, where the intense heat softens the metal and makes it more malleable. Then, the blade is formed by striking the heated metal repeatedly with a heavy sledgehammer.

At Jantz Supply, we have all of the necessary supplies for heat treating knives. We also stock everything you need to start etching knives to customize or decorate them. Check out our product categories to learn more about our selection of tools and equipment.
